2020 has been a year of new challenges and unexpected obstacles. fueled in large part by the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 impacted nearly every aspect of the global economy.

Digitalmania studio wasn’t spared either, but with the benefit of hindsight, we can say proudly that we overcame it.

Here’s A Recap Of 2020 :

The Infinite loop started the year off right, in less than three months our team building activity was an international best-seller in B2B with +135 on-site team-building sessions, for +7K employees.

During that time, we were honored in Poland with the “BEST TEAM BUILDING PRODUCT” award at the Gala MP Power Awards. One of Europe’s most prestigious event industry competitions.

 

That’s when things began to shift; as the Covid crisis spread around the globe, our event agency partners and HR clients suffered major losses.

Knowing that The Infinite Loop was built for on-site activities, we didn’t take long to note the significant decrease in the number of events per day.

We had to take steps to address the challenge by giving our partners and customers a product that was acceptable for the situation.

All it took was a month of brainstorming meetings and experimentation to switch TIL from VR to the web browser while retaining the same user interface and company results, and we called it a day. The Infinite loop Online.

The Infinite Loop online growth was remarkable, in just 8 months we concluded more than  367 online team-building sessions, for + 17K employees with the support of our partners all over the world.

During that time, we kept enhancing the activity .

We added the customization features, session duration, and the option to change the language per player for Multilanguage events.

Warshmallows is community-centered since day one. We couldn’t wait for the game’s final release to start receiving feedback.

As a result, we launched our first closed beta on Steam in February 2020.

Since then, we’ve been updating the build on a weekly basis… Yeah, weekly 😉 with the following results:

This year has brought so much to us that we can’t wait to see what happens in 2020!  But before, let’s revisit a few of our favorite memories While we prep for our strongest year yet, we wanted to take a beat to celebrate the wins – big and small – that made up our year.

At the very end of last year’s review, we mentioned that we are aiming to pull away from client services in favor of creating our own products that serve our company.

Hell yeah, we did it !!! 

We launched the first-ever VR business game made for team building with more than 45 partners worldwide.

Since its launch in January 2019, The Infinite Loop was used as a main activity in more than 330 events, held in more than 30 countries, for more than 15K professionals. and those are some of our clients

2019 has been a huge year for Warshmallows. Seeing the people’s reactions while playing Warshmallows since we launched in 2018  was so priceless, know that people enjoyed the gameplay while using little cubic as a character.so last year we worked on creating new graphics for the game. We started by turning those tittle cubics into fluffy marshmallows, followed by improving the environment in-game.

Here, we find ourselves at the end of 2018, a year that brought to us so many memories full of emotions. It’s essential for us to reflect on the past twelve months.It was a challenging year in which we pivoted our main direction and started increasingly pulling away from client services in favor of focusing on products that serve our company.

With our partner synergy the exclusive representative of catalyst global on North Africa, we created The Infinite Loop , the first ever VR business game made for team building. Our hard work paid off when we got accepted by catalyst global to publish the infinite loop on their network. Today the infinite loop is available worldwide via catalyst partners,

We proudly announce that catalyst global partners tested the game in south africa and some of them have already started to sell it.

After 7 years of gathering knowledge ,acquiring experience  and learning from our mistakes, we believe that the time has come to totally focus on a new game.

Abra Cadabra ! we came up with WARSHMALLOWS ! a multiplayer couch  game made for all ages.

We combined creativity, hard work and self-determination and that’s when things started happening . we tested our  first prototype in two of the biggest events in Tunisia (comic con Tunisia , banzai tunisia )

We went to Comic Con Tunisia with only our Beta Version of the game and we were were amazed by the fact that for 3 days our booth attracted lots of people from different backgrounds and they showed satisfaction by the quality of game.

for  banzai we wanted to test the competitive aspect of the game for that we organized a tournament and those are some numbers

– 500+ people played the game on the training day (day1)

– 128 Gamers subscribed on site for the tournament (day 2)

– 1500 people cheered the final on the main stage

PS : TDS was special event , we were honored by the visit we got from the head of the government and the minister of technology to our booth  

The digital summit was marked by the participation of digital professionals, experts and decision-makers in Tunisia, Africa and abroad, in order to spread the themes of technological innovation and digital transformation of companies, particularly in Tunisia. meanwhile virtuality was a trade show dedicated to virtual reality and immersive technologies .

We presented for our audience in the summit carthage VR and Kouji.

– Carthage VR is a virtual reality experience in the Punic City of Carthage in the 2nd Century BC era .

Carthage VR is an immersive travel in History to discover the Glorious city of Elyssa and Hannibal.From the Temple of Eshmoun to the famous circular military harbour.

IMPORTANT : Since March 2018, Carthage VR became part of a Startup called Digital Cultural eXperience. DCX vision is making cultural heritage attractive for young people.By mixing new technologies, engaging storytelling and exciting gamification,

Kouji is an AR app where you can create your own personalized 3D avatar (over three quintillion possibilities and growing),Dub your avatar with your voice as his lips follow your voice and add voice filters too , and Share it  on Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram or directly on your phone.

DigitalMania’s 2017 games

This year was definitely the confirmation that the video game is the king in the e-entertainement industry. It’s for sure also one of the most effective way to promote brands and products and it is also a super tool for the educational apps and websites.

Here is a sneak peak about what we did last year.

First of all,We created Dark Orbit Arcade, an adaptation of the famous MMORPG « Dark Orbit », in collaboration with Bigpoint,  and ShareCoca for McCANN and both were amazing. We are also proud to say that we were part of a successful marketing campaign with Delice, in which we produced “danup the game” in collaboration with G-Dice.One of our greatest hits was garcito, a game developed for our partner agency Impact and our client SFBT.

Another remarkable event of 2017 was that we assisted Kenbil Studio and Nessma TV for publishing their game Chakapons which went viral in Tunisia (Over 500.000 users in 2 months). As believers in Virtual Reality, we had the plesure to make 6 VR games this year. For instance, collaborating with Heineken at first and then with  Shell were one of the best,for whom we created an amazing F1 racing experience .

After the success of Oh! Zone Defi on 2016, we developed another successful game : VélOh! Challenge, in partnership with Sonobra and Tracy Communication.

We continued to work with our most prolific partners and a strategic partnership have been made with the most creative and successful digital agencies .

And to make all this possible of course DigitalMania family is growing with talented and creative people.

They organized an event called “Upcoming Lights” for over a hundred high school students on the verge of graduation needing guidance and enlightenment from experts in order to choose their future field of studies and decide which road to take. The “Upcoming Lights”, held in “Lake Forum” included success stories and mini conferences alternated by musical breaks.

The minister of higher education and scientific research, beautifully opened this event by expressing his admiration and pride of the young organizers who managed to invite doctors and science , entrepreneurs, influent attorneys and experts in high technologies and game development industry.

Chema, our developer and UNITY expert, was there to animate the series of mini conferences about the gaming industry in Tunisia and worldwide. The interaction with the audience during the conference made it more efficient and everyone made full profit of the experience.

Several youngsters mentioned that they would love to become video game developers or game designers and were enthusiastic to Chema’s explanations. In fact, she demonstrated to them step by step the process of video game creation and offered them suggestions on how to start learning the basics on their own. Since the majority of questions revolved around the work environment and task distributions in DigitalMania, Chema introduced the main teams and described the spirit of our studio with some funny facts we lived.

There was one brilliant audience member, Hela, a beautiful young twelve-year-old girl who kept asking questions and taking notes just like a young start-upper would do.

One of the cutest questions that she asked was: Is it hard to create? To which Chema replied,

“It’s not. But even when it seems hard at first, it’s fun”.

2016 was named the “Year of VR” not without reason! We have all seen this worldwide epic battle of VR technologies between Oculus, HTC and Sony. People talked about Virtual Reality in fairs, events, confs and even classrooms. Tunisia was no exception. VR was mostly an advertisement weapon for different brands in different fields. That’s why for DigitalMania, 2016 was also the “Year of VR”! But not solely 😉

DigitalMania’s 2016 VR Experiences

We’ve made 9 experiences and games using virtual reality technologies! Coca Cola Box of Feelings, the most popular VR Experience was made by FP7 / McCANN for Coca Cola. The trio, FP7 / McCANN, as concept owner, DigitalMania, as technology partner, and BanniBanni, as content producer, created a a box providing a 7D experience using Gear VR that toured all the 24 governorates of Tunisia. 37 000 people tried it and enjoyed a unique experience!!

In addition to the VR Experience itself, we built a box providing extra sensations to the experience: A moving platform, fresh air, hot air and water splashing.

The newest VR technology, the HTC Vive, has also been exploited few months after its official release. “Oh! Zone Defi”  is a thrilling experience based on vertigo that pushes the players to their limits.

New In-App payment method

Due to the Google Play restrictions on payments method, Tunisian game developers are still unable to monetise their games and apps. Ooredoo Tunisia and DigitalMania, made it possible on our games Funky Shooter, Pack 3sab and Bagra…

Bagra?

Bagra, our latest game!

2016 also was the year we made the soft launch of our latest game, Bagra! Bagra is a MMOHSMG or actually the first : Massive Multiplayer Online Hyper Social Mobile  Game (or more simply a Strategy Mobile Game :p) where you steal your friend’s cows in order to win a real … COW!

The giveaway of the first cow “Pamela” did the hype in the world wide gaming community and online medias talked about it in at 50+ countries. The biggest gaming media such as Kotaku, IGN or Demonoid talked about us and described the phenomenon as “The first game Pay-To-Win-A-Cow”! Interesting, isn’t?

Bagra won the Best Mobile Game Award at the Tunisian Game Awards 2016 (TGA)!

The early access of Bagra allowed us to collect feedbacks to provide a better version coming soon. Stay Tuned 😉

What about Events?

2016 was also the year of the participation of DigitalMania in many local and international events. We were present in many events to promote Bagra – The Game and our expertise about making games and VR experiences.

International media coverage

During 2016, we were hoping to gain more international media visibility. It started with a special interview of our CEO on Forbes Africa.

Fortunately, just after the first release of Bagra and with the giveaway of our lovely Pamela, Bagra – The Game and DigitalMania made the buzz.

What about 2017?

2017 will be the year of the internationalization of DigitalMania. Our games like Bagra will be available in the international stores. We are also working on new VR project that we hope, will provide a fresh air to the VR market.

Qu’est-ce que la réalité virtuelle ?

La réalité virtuelle est un concept. Ce concept reproduit un environnement, réel ou imaginaire, et simule la présence et l’environnement physique d’un utilisateur pour permettre une interaction avec ce dernier. La réalité virtuelle crée artificiellement un monde qui peut être imaginaire ou réel.

Pourquoi avoir créé la réalité virtuelle ?

La réalité virtuelle est là pour offrir aux utilisateurs différentes expériences qu’ils ne peuvent réellement vivre pour différentes raisons ! Ce peut être des contraintes de temps, d’argent, d’éthiques ou tout simplement parce que le monde qu’ils veulent explorer n’existe pas encore (ou n’existera jamais) !

Et si on parlait de mon expérience à moi ?

Gear VR :

J’arrive chez DigitalMania en ayant eu qu’une seule expérience de réalité virtuelle, on me demande donc si j’avais eu l’occasion d’essayer la Gear VR, je réponds que cela m’est arrivé qu’une seule fois. On me propose donc de la tester au bureau. Des graphismes pas mauvais, avec la possibilité d’interagir de façon limité avec l’environnement avec le regard, étant donné qu’un viseur est intégré et qu’il suffit d’orienter ce viseur dans le but d’interagir avec l’environnement ou bien en utilisant aussi le pavé tactile sur le côté droit de la Gear.

Oculus Rift :

Maintenant que cela est fait, passant à un niveau supérieur, l’Oculus Rift! Le concept est le même mais étant donné que le casque est relié non pas à un téléphone mais à un ordinateur, les capacités graphiques et les possibilités d’interactions sont décuplés. Pour Oculus Rift, on oublie le pavé tactile. on peut utiliser une manette pour se déplacer et interagir avec l’environnement. Sinon d’autres types de manettes existent telles que les pistolets qui sont généralement utilisé pour les jeux de tirs, ou encore l’Oculus Touch, qui n’est pas encore disponible sur le marché mais qui permet de simuler le mouvement des mains dans l’espace.

HTC VIVE !

Et voilà la révolution dans le monde de la réalité virtuelle qui arrive chez nous : La HTC VIVE ! Imaginez non seulement que vous êtes plongés dans un autre univers mais qu’en plus de ça vous pouvez même vous déplacer dedans.

Parlons à présent de mon expérience, je mets le casque ainsi que les manettes qui sont en réalité vos mains dans le jeu. Je teste un jeu dans lequel je dois défendre la porte de la ville avant que les assaillants ne la détruisent pour cela j’incarne le rôle d’un archer au-dessus d’une tour. Pensant que le test que je ferais ne dépasserait pas les 20 minutes, je me rends compte à un certains moments que plus personnes n’est au bureau et que j’étais le seul restant. Je regarde ma montre, il était déjà 23h !! (sachant que j’avais commencé a jouer à 18h30).

Cette technologie est une révolution ! La prise main est parfaite et la qualité d’expérience est unique en son genre ! Je ne peux dire que chapeau bas à l’équipe d’HTC et de Valve qui vont permettre à des milliers, voir des millions de gens de pouvoir vivre des expériences diverses et riches.

Conclusion ?

Cette technologie est d’après moi l’avenir du monde ! Imaginez une école d’ingénieur en mécanique où on utilise cela pour que les étudiants puissent faire des essais ou encore imaginez des médecins apprenant la chirurgie …etc. Si cette technologie est exploité à 100 %, nous aurons la possibilité de développer énormément de chose et moi personnellement je vous laisse, il est temps que j’aille prendre mon arc pour défendre mon château.
